Now, all discipline, while it is happening, does indeed seem painful, not enjoyable; but for those who have been trained by it, it later produces its peaceful fruit, which is righteousness. So,
strengthen your drooping arms,
and steady your tottering knees;
make a level path for your feet;
so that what has been injured will not get wrenched out of joint but rather will be healed.
Discipline in the moment sucks. I know I have loving parents who disciplined me often for my rebellious behavior. I had Mentors discipline me for the potential they saw I had, and I have had God discipline me for learning to rely more solidly on Him. It is when I refuse the discipline no matter the source that I am bound to repeat the error and fail again. That is what Sha’ul is telling us, strengthen ourselves and learn so we can move forward without injury to greater and greater things. Thank You Lord for Your discipline and keeping me in Your hand. Praise You Abba for Your loving kindness and examples in the people You have placed around me. Amen
